This is a blog dedicated to counting New York City bicyclists riding in the outer boroughs. By outer boroughs, we mean anything outside of midtown and lower Manhattan, western Brooklyn and southwestern Queens, which we believe the City DOT does a very good job of counting.

But the site isn’t limited to just spot counts. Where possible, we like to use surveys to glean a little more information from bicyclists, such as their destination, origin, purpose of travel and why they chose to ride their bike rather than some other mode of transportation.

All our results will be displayed publicly in the hopes of raising awareness to those New York City cyclists whose numbers and routes are not well captured by the City’s bicycle outreach and count methods. We hope this will encourage better informed decisions as NYC continues to improve and expand bike infrastructure across the entire city.
